Seaside Stripes

May 31st, 2012

J.Crew Dress and Belt, Kelly Wearstler Clutch, Miu Miu Heels, MAC “Snob” Lipstick

I own an inappropriately large amount of striped pieces, but somehow this dress feels slightly different. It’s simple – with a classic cut, in traditional navy and white, with a slight boat neck and a nipped in waist – but the silk fabric makes it dressy enough for evening when accessorized properly. To keep it from feeling too nautical, I added a heavy winged liner (tutorial here), some light pink lipstick and a ’60s-inspired hair style…oh and I threw on my wedding shoes, since they’re too fun to keep stowed away in my closet.

Food for Thought

May 30th, 2012

Despite what I show on my site, my day-to-day eating habits are actually rather bland – cereal, a mid-morning snack of almonds and dried fruit, a sandwich for lunch, and some sort of pasta or fish at night (with sweets throughout the day, of course). I feel extremely fortunate that I live in a city that truly celebrates food, from the most gourmet dining experiences to cool new food trucks that pop up all the time. This past Saturday, I found the ideal balance – a great brunch at Milo & Olive and then over to Santa Monica Seafood where we picked up two dozen oysters to eat in the back yard later with a bottle of white wine later that evening. It was quite possibly the best day of dining I’ve had in a while.

Cherry Tied

Equipment Blouse, J.Crew Pants and Bracelet, Marni Shoes, OPI ‘A Roll in the Hague’ Nail Polish

I had a great Memorial Day weekend – I finished two books, ate my favorite foods (some fried, some sweet), caught up on TV shows, hung out with friends, and squeezed in a bit of shopping on my own. I came home with this top, which is quintessentially summer, and I love the cut and color (they’re called ‘neon rose’ on J.Crew’s website) of these cropped pants. I changed as soon as I got home so I could wear the entire outfit out and I’m still impressed that I managed to avoid any barbecue stains.

Five Things

Memorial Day weekend is one of my favorites of the year – it feels like official start of summer and I always feel pressured (in the best way possible) to make it special. This weekend we’re going out with friends for a fried chicken dinner, heading to to the beach, and barbecuing in our backyard. Have a great weekend!
