Everyday Make-up

February 29th, 2012

Most mornings I follow the same beauty routine – I wash my face, put on moisturizer, and apply just enough make-up so that I look put together, but not done up. It only takes a few minutes and makes for the ideal base, should I want to add on a smoky eye or a bold lip. Since I’m always curious about other women’s beauty routines (I would love to hear yours!), here’s a video I did with Estee Lauder to share the steps I take.

Shifted Leather

Gap Dress
, Anthropologie Necklace, Vintage Clutch, Dries Van Noten Sandals, Essie Cute as a Button Nail Polish

I hadn’t been to a Gap since I bought these pants about a year ago and I must say that I was pleasantly surprised by all of the great pieces in store. I came home with this dress, which has the feel of a classic shift, but hugs in all of the right places instead of feeling overly boxy. And since I’ve been wearing my chambray shirts to the point of holes, I picked up a similar version in a faded pink that will make for a nice replacement.

Brownie Squares

{New favorite striped/neon shirt available here}

For our Academy Awards party, we always have an abundance of food – a fancy cheese plate, some crackers and dip, small sandwiches, bubbly drinks, and lots of candy. My memories of watching films are undeniably tied to sweets, since a trip to a movie theatre wouldn’t seem complete without them. With that in mind, I made Miette’s brownies (complete with Alice in Wonderland tags) in my friend Danny’s eco-friendly square muffin tins, so that each one had a crispy edge and a gooey center. They were decadent, dense, and completely worth the mess in the kitchen I had waiting for me later that night.

Comfortable Classics

February 27th, 2012

Prada Sunglasses, Elizabeth and James Blazer, Zara Top, TEXTILE Jeans, Manolo Blahnik Heels, Zara Bag, Jewelry by my mom

Lately I’ve been favoring simple basics with a twist – a plain leather tank top, two long dainty chains and a thin cuff (all made by my mom), pointy toe stilettos that I’ve finally broken in, and a carryall that can comfortably hold about twice as many things as seen here. This weekend went by far too quickly, but the highlights included stocking up on tuberose at the farmers’ market, trying out a new sushi restaurant in Little Tokyo, and a leisurely afternoon watching the (slightly underwhelming) Academy Awards with friends.
