Gingerbread Snowflakes

December 7th, 2011

I have an interesting relationship with Gingerbread. I’m actually not even that big of a fan of the stuff, but made a batch yesterday to give as gifts (and so that my house would smell amazing). This recipe though, is easily the best I’ve come across, since the cookies are exceedingly warm and spicy, with that signature snap when you bite into them. I dressed mine up with some royal icing (you can see my tutorial here) and they were almost enough to make me a full fledged Gingerbread convert.

My snowflake cookie cutter is part of this wonderful set (that has different shapes for each season)

Sounds of the Season

December 6th, 2011

{Our Christmas tree – as shot through this technique}

Yesterday my fiancé and I celebrated our fourth anniversary (over a fantastic dinner at Lucques). This time of year always makes me nostalgic, especially for those days when we first started dating. During our first holiday season together, we both made playlists for each other comprised of all of our favorite Christmas music. The idea felt sweet and playful, though we both hoped that our own compilations would be deemed best. He won that first year, but it’s been one of my most cherished traditions to recreate each season. My playlists change each year (from old crooners, to dorky boy bands, to children’s choirs), but my all-time favorite Christmas songs are O Holy Night, All I Want For Christmas is You, and White Christmas. Do you have favorite songs you listen to each year?

P.S. You can listen to my playlist here.

Cold Shoulder

December 5th, 2011

Ray Ban Aviators, Equipment Blouse, J.Crew Skirt, Marc Jacobs Bag, Christian Louboutin Heels, Alexis Bittar Earrings, Essie “Mint Candy Apple” Polish

I love it when one detail (like cut-out shoulders) can take a simple piece and make it special. I wore this out yesterday afternoon for some shopping (where I picked up the earrings I’m wearing) before heading out to dinner.
