Scent Bar

October 26th, 2011

I’m a huge fan of perfume, so it’s crazy that I only discovered Scent Bar a couple of weeks back. While most of the fragrances I own are from department stores, I love the idea of supporting local businesses. It’s a tiny shop stocked with tons of under-the-radar scents, all categorized into sections (from white florals, to minimum, to leather, and vanilla). I’m drawn to floral fragrances with a slightly heavier finish, rather than powdery or sweet. I bought Nasomatto’s Narcotic Venus (which combines tuberose, wood, and spice) and I’m intoxicated by its scent. I often switch perfumes every few days, but I’ve always wanted to be one of those girls with a signature scent…and I think I’ve finally found it. Do you have one favorite you swear by or do you rotate?

Caramel Corn

October 25th, 2011

Caramel corn is a magical thing. Even at the height of my most angsty teenage years, my dad would occasionally make homemade caramel corn for my friends and me while we watched movies and it immediately brought us right back to childhood. It’s still one of my favorite traditions and a decade later, I make it anytime I’m feeling particularly homesick. Since we’re less than a week away from Halloween, I figured it would be a great time to make this classic treat (recipe here) to accompany the growing stack of horror movies next to the TV.

Forest Shades

Zara Blazer, Myne Dress c/o, Juicy Couture Clutch, Vintage, DanniJo, J.Crew Bracelets, Alaia Booties, Essie Wicked Nail Polish

I own a fair amount of blazers, but this forest green one I bought while in New York last month has quickly become one of my favorites. It’s a fun departure from basic black or navy, but still manages to be just as versatile. I wore this out to grab sushi and frozen yogurt (possibly the best combo ever) and then changed into comfortable basics for the remainder of the weekend, which included a trip to the flea market (where I found the most amazing ’50s punch bowl), some DIY projects, and pumpkin carving.
