Paper Flowers

April 25th, 2011

Karen Walker Sunglasses, H&M Trench, Zara Top, Forever 21 Necklace, Scout Skirt, Traders and Company Straw Tote, J.Crew Sandals

Yesterday we went down to Olvera Street to pick up some decorations for our Cinco de Mayo party. It was misting the entire time, so we stopped for caramel-filled churros upon our arrival, which helped alleviate my frozen limbs. I picked up some paper flowers, an embroidered top and colorful flags that I’ve since decided will probably remain up long after the party ends. Inspired by these colors, I threw together an outfit using old favorites mixed with new staples (my spring-time trench and patent sandals); perfect for Easter Sunday.

Five Things

{A treasured new gift; Sydney Evan’s Amour necklace}

Despite the fact that I was inexplicably cranky yesterday (does that ever happen to you?), this has been a great week. On Monday night, my fiancé and I slow danced in our living room; me in bare feet and him in sneakers. We listened to a sad, soft song and though no words were spoken, I couldn’t help but fantasize about our wedding night. It was one of those sweet moments that I’ll remember forever and reminded me of one of my favorite lines from A River Runs Through It.

“As the moon lingers a moment over the bitterroots, before its descent into the invisible, my mind is filled with song. I find I am humming softly; not to the music, but something else; some place else; a place remembered; a field of grass where no one seemed to have been; except a deer; and the memory is strengthened by the feeling of you, dancing in my awkward arms.”

Coral Crush

April 21st, 2011

Handmade Tulle Headband, Maybelline Coral Crush Lipstick, Essie Lovie Dovie Nail Polish, Vintage Leopard Blazer, Express Blouse, Phillip Lim Shorts, Zara Clutch, Steve Madden Booties

I bought this mango-colored tulle (among other sherbet shades) a while ago and have been playing around with different projects ever since. One of my failed attempts at a necklace has since turned into a headband, which I complemented (though unintentionally) with cotton candy nails, coral lips and a bright orange bag. I love how the base of this outfit felt professional and the little details (like leopard, tulle and neon) made it playful and perfect for spring.

Root Beer Float Popsicles

April 20th, 2011

This past weekend (back when it was still sweltering) I decided to do something about our Popsicle addiction. We already owned these clever rocket-shaped molds, but found ourselves too impatient to wait several hours for our frozen treats. Enter: Zoku Quick Pop Maker. Yes, paying $50 for what could be done with some paper cups and wooden sticks is extravagant, but homemade Popsicles in mere minutes was far too tempting. For our first attempt, we made Root Beer Cream-sicles (recipe from Ice Pops) and they were the ideal complement to the afternoon sun.
