Cupcakes and Cashmere

Sweet and Structured

February 22nd, 2011

I love absurdly girly pieces; made with the daintiest lace, in various shades of pink, with lots of frills and ruffles. However, there’s nothing worse than a saccharine look that lacks balance. Spring is one of my favorite seasons to dress for, since it’s filled with feminine pieces that all beg to be juxtaposed with sharp blazers, tough boots and structured bags. Here are a few of the items that would fulfill my sweet and structured cravings, in a variety of price points.

1. Topshop Blue Floral Print Shorts $66
2. Reiss Square Clasp Cuff $115
3. Asos Leather Portfolio Clutch $98.62
4. Topshop Yellow Scallop Button Shirt $50
5. Reiss Leatherette Skirt $77
6. Topshop Camel Mary Jane Platforms $135
7. Alexander Wang Soft Cotton Blazer $175
8. River Island Vintage Cross Body Bag $44.83
9. Elizabeth and James Chantal Silk Blouse $345
10. Forever 21 Glimmer Multi Bead Necklace $7.80
11. Core Spirit Black Lace Shorts $155
12. Forever 21 Stiletto Heel Work Boots $32.80

Cloudy Temperament

February 21st, 2011

Karen Walker Sunglasses, Coach Trench, J.Crew Necklace, Twelfth Street by Cynthia Vincent Dress, Vintage Bracelets, Mulberry Bag, Gifted LAMB Shoes

There was a threat of rain throughout the weekend; with ominous clouds lurking the whole time, but with little to show for it. I wore this trench consistently, just in case, and fell in love with it all over again. I usually only pull it out in anticipation of wet weather, but I think light-weight trenches are going to play a major role in my spring wardrobe. They make any outfit feel infinitely more polished and I love how it made my slinky dress (which I originally bought to wear out at night) suddenly daytime appropriate.

Five Things

February 18th, 2011

{My growing collection of patterned skirts (the striped one seen here)}

We’re supposed to have a rain-filled weekend, and I’ve done my best to prepare so that I barely have to leave the house. The kitchen’s stocked, I loaded up on jewelry-making supplies and am hosting a pajama party that includes breakfast, mimosas and movies. I plan to venture out solely for good food and perhaps the Barneys Warehouse sale, which hopefully won’t disappoint. It was definitely a long week, so I’m particularly thrilled the weekend’s arrived. Here are five little things currently making me happy.

{Favorite new soup (recipe here) that’s full of flavor and super healthy}

{A little lacy gift that’s too pretty to keep in a drawer}

{K Chocolatier‘s Chocolate balls filled with whiskey. Best. Idea. Ever.}

{Materials to make a new (and very simple) necklace}

Orange Pop

Revlon Orange Flip Lipstick, Zara Jacket, Haute Hippie Skirt, Hue Tights, Proenza Schouler Booties, gifted Mulberry Bag c/o my-wardrobe.com

There was a pretty drastic change in the weather this week, which means I finally got a chance to pull out some of my wintery pieces. I don’t own too many jackets, but this one from Zara, with its camel-colored fabric and leather sleeves, is one of my favorites.  Since I’ve been wearing so many natural tones lately (as seen here), I’ve been all about bright accents, and this orange lipstick is at the top of my list. My newest neutral addition is my Mulberry bag, that ties together any outfit and is roomy enough to hold a variety of miscellaneous items, including my umbrella, overstuffed wallet, a bottle of water and lots of random snacks.
