This past weekend I finally replaced my old cake stand (I dropped it during our move and watched it shatter into a million pieces). I found this seafoam green one in Venice and felt required to fill it up with bright treats as soon as possible. Since lemons play a pretty big role in most of the fruit-based desserts that I bake (as seen here, here and here), I knew I had to make Martha Stewart’s Lemon Meringue Cupcakes. They were even better than I had imagined, and I was seriously impressed with the combination of the moist cake, tart lemon curd and fluffy meringue.

Vintage Sunglasses, No Name Earring, Madewell Dress and Belt, Foley + Corinna Bag, Philosophy di Alberta Feretti Sandals
Occasionally I’ll buy something based simply on how twirl-worthy it is. I wasn’t sure how practical a long, pleated dress would be in L.A., but it’s surprisingly one of the most versatile pieces I now own. I throw it on during the day with just a belt and pair it with a leather jacket and red lipstick for nights out. Since we spent the weekend running errands and completing house projects, I needed something that would easily transition from the flea market to brunch.

{Orange-colored gumballs serve as decoration and snacks}
I’ve always loved the idea of decorating with candy to brighten up a room and to keep things playful. But given my propensity for sweets, I never thought it would work. Turns out, I can resist these brightly colored gumballs that have been a fun addition to my office. Besides my colorful new focal point, here are a few other things currently making me happy. Have a great weekend.

{Yeojin Bae‘s new collection; loved the sequins and watercolor prints}

{Finally found simple white frames (from West Elm) for some of my art}

{Obsessed with these polishes; though I went home with Black Pearl}

{My new piggy bank that that I’d been wanting forever (here and here)}

Topshop Blouse, Karen Walker Sunglasses, Vintage Necklace and Clutch, Chloe Sevingny for Opening Ceremony Pants (also seen HERE), Jeffrey Campbell Wedges
I bought this necklace a few weeks ago at the flea market on a whim. It’s different from everything I own and I initially worried whether all of the citrus-colored stones would complement anything else in my wardrobe. I was set on waiting until spring to brighten up little dresses, but ended up pulling it out early. For the first dreary day in what seemed like weeks, it was just what I needed to add a dose of sunshine to an otherwise neutral outfit.
