Good Things

{My closet that’s slowly coming together}

This week was long and I must have asked my boyfriend which day it was more times than I care to recall.   It’s easy to let those kinds of weeks get the best of you, but instead I tried to focus on the little things that were brightening each day, even if I didn’t know which one it was.  Here’s a glimpse of a few of those moments that helped get me to the weekend.

Chocolate Truffles

October 28th, 2010

One of my fondest memories from childhood revolved around the annual sample day at Lyla’s Chocolates.   Each October my mom and I would squeeze into the tiny shop, among hordes of other women, to try out their newest sugary sweets.  My favorites were always the honeycomb (which I made here) and their truffles, that were dark and rich with flavor.  The shop’s no longer there, but yesterday I made my own batch that were smooth, velvety and almost as good as I remember.

Scary Seventies

October 27th, 2010

Last night my boyfriend and I made a big bowl of popcorn, turned down all the lights and watched the original Halloween.  It was the perfect Tuesday night and even though I’ve seen the movie more times than I can count, for the first time I was more focused on the clothes than I was on Michael Myers.   I loved the cream-colored tights, the platform loafers and high-waisted jeans that looked like they were painted on.  It sparked a whole new obsession with ’70s-inspired pieces that I’m sure will stick around even after Halloween has passed.

Office Space

October 26th, 2010

One of the best and worst parts of interior decorating is that you’re never really finished.  That’s not to say that a room can’t feel polished and pretty, but I usually end up deeming everything as a “work in progress.”  Art work is left unframed, mirrors lean up against walls and dead light bulbs remain unchanged for months.  My office is still coming together, but instead of waiting until everything’s perfect, here’s a glimpse at some of my recent finds (like my cow hide rug, antique gold bucket/trashcan, art from Etsy, paperweights and vintage mirror).
