Topshop Blazer and Blouse, J Brand Low Rise Leggings, Martin + Osa Necklace, Vintage Bracelet, Gifted Chan Luu Bracelet, Alaia Platforms

I’ve never been a jeans and t-shirt kind of girl.  It’s not that I’m always dressed up (because I’m certainly not), but I prefer breezy dresses to constricting, stiff denim.  When the legging/jeans hybrid appeared on the scene last year, I was skeptical that they could be comfortable and simultaneously flattering.  Turns out, some of them are.  Revolve sent over these J Brand Low Rise Leggings last week and I’ve barely changed out of them since.  They’re tight in all the right places (at the ankles) and have the right amount of give where you need it most (upper thighs) and I love that I can just easily wear them with dangerously tall heels as I can with ballet flats.

Black Bean Soup

April 7th, 2010

The weather has been so erratic lately that meal planning has become close to impossible.  One day it’s sunny and stifling, the next it’s gray and wet. Monday was one of those painfully dreary mornings that just begged for a hearty soup for dinner.  I made Tyler Florence’s Black Bean Soup with fresh lime crema and cilantro and I was seriously impressed with myself.  Not only did it make my entire place smell incredible, but it tasted just as good the next day, served cold.

Madewell Dress and Belt, Hue Tights, Vintage Bracelet, Yves Saint Laurent Platforms

I made a rather embarrassing spectacle in the Madewell store this weekend when I tried on dozens of items and walked out with almost all of them.  I had never fully embraced their clothing, but couldn’t resist the sweet, floral dresses, rugged belts and intricate necklaces.  I also picked up these charcoal gray tights that were on sale in anticipation of next fall, but the cool evenings these past few nights were a great excuse to pull them out early.
