Father’s Office

fo-1.jpg

Last night was particularly gloomy and nothing sounded more satisfying than a trip to Father’s Office.  I’m not talking about your dad’s stuffy den, but arguably the best burger joint in L.A.  They specialize in a signature hamburger (seriously, no substitutions allowed) that’s topped with an onion compote, arugula and infused with Maytag blue cheese.  It’s hard to imagine a better way to start the weekend.

Colorless

white-hot.jpg

Occasionally I find the abundance of white clothing in my closet discouraging since it’s about as neutral [read: boring] as you can get.  Luckily, those thoughts are far and few between seeing as how it’s the quintessential color for summer.  As demonstrated perfectly by some of these leading ladies, white tops can add an alluring and crisp vibe to any outfit, especially with the help of appropriately placed buttons, bows and ruched edges.  Here are just a few of my current obsessions (ranging from Forever 21 to Miu Miu) that would blend seamlessly with the rest of my growing collection.

1. Forever 21, $15.80
2. Marc by Marc Jacobs, $102
3. dELiAs, $44.50
4. Old Navy, $12.50
5. Erin Wasson X RVCA, $55
6. Elizabeth and James, $95
7. Topshop, $50
8. Miu Miu, $312

Boyfriend Button-down

Boyfriend’s button-down, BDG Jeans, Vintage Bracelet and Ring, Seychelles Heels

One of the few advantages of sharing a closet with my boyfriend is the abundance of perfectly lived-in shirts.  They’re the quickest way to create an androgynous ensemble and about five times more comfortable than anything I own.  I pretty much lived in this Wrangler one the entire weekend, which included a spontaneous road trip to Santa Barbara, lots of barbecued food and way too many cups of coffee.

June Gloom

candy-heels.jpg

Every year, at the beginning of summer, Los Angeles enters a paradoxical phase called “June Gloom.”  Overcast, damp mornings are met with blazing afternoons, which makes getting dressed in the morning slightly challenging.   Rather than sulking in multiple dreary layers, candy-colored heels add an unexpected pop of color to your feet that will certainly brighten up any gray morning.

1. Marni – $441.
2. Topshop – $180
3. Nine West – $89
4. Lanvin – $1,120
5. Kate Spade – $117.74
6. Castaner – $102
7. Jimmy Choo – $350
8. Gap – $98

Poppy Talk

Vintage Sunglasses, H&M Top, Forever 21 Bib Necklace, Scout Skirt, Miu Miu Pumps, Vintage Clutch

Despite my best efforts, I can’t shake my obsession for tulip skirts.  They’re undeniably fun and flirty and offer just the right amount of volume without appearing overdone.  I was immediately drawn to this one (from the hip site I Don’t Like Mondays) for its sweet poppy color and deep set pockets.  As for my necklace, don’t blame me if you missed the boat since they’re now sold out (I told you about it here) and it’s still the best $13.80 I’ve ever spent.

Crave or Save

crave-or-save-skirts.jpg

Don’t you love when you find a designer piece that simply needs to make its way into your closet only to realize there’s a much more affordable option at hand? Elizabeth and James’ Draped Skirt first caught my attention for its wonderfully slinky fabric and waist-cinching contrast band.  It was only until several weeks later that I came across Forever 21’s Elastic Band Knit Skirt and knew that the similarities were too great to pass up.

What’s your take – is this a crave or save situation?

Loeffler Randall Dress, Forever 21 Belt, Urban Outfitters Cuff, Cynthia Vincent Wedges

As a wonderful belated birthday present, I was delighted when this Loeffler Randall dress appeared in my mailbox courtesy of Alison from 25 Park.  The proportions are so lovely with its wide, boxy sleeves and I simply love the cut out detailing on the decolletage.  Turns out, they’re the perfect complement to my newest purchase from Gilt Groupe.  As documented multiples times on my blog, I’ve been after these Cynthia Vincent Luella wedges for quite some time.  Luckily, I scored a pair in brown and black, for less than the price of a single pair.  If you’re still without a Gilt membership, feel free to hit me up in the comment section!
