My Boyfriend’s Back

October 17th, 2008

As a child, one of the worst insults is to be called a nerd.  Well, at least it was for me (looking back, my massive retainer, uni-brow and baseball hat didn’t help matters much).  Oddly enough, dorky chic has somehow evolved into an up and coming fad as seen here, here and here (notice that the glasses are sold out!).  Since my vision is nearly perfect, I won’t be sporting any plastic lenses, but will be relying on boyfriend cardigans, inspired by the timeless Mister Rogers.

1. Cashmere Keepsake Cardigan, J.Crew: $188
2. Grosbee Cardigan, Paul & Joe Sister: £108
3. Color Block Cardigan, Old Navy: $25
4. Men’s Prep Stripe Cardigan, Fred Flare: $66
5. Eliana Boyfriend Cardigan, dELiAs: $49.50
6. Boiled Cut Away Cardigan, James Perse: $475
7. Gwyneth Cardigan, Theory: £125

Tune in this weekend when I’ll be posting some fun pictures from a little excursion planned for tomorrow!

Sweet Talk

October 16th, 2008

Over the years, I’ve developed a sort of obsession when it comes to compiling lists.  Whether I’m standing in line for coffee or waiting at the doctor’s office, I find it relaxing to sort things out in my head.  Not that anyone’s ever quizzed me on my favorite movie soundtrack or most beloved colors, but I guess I just like to know for myself.  Inspired by Halloween, I thought I’d share my most cherished candies:

Skor - The buttery toffee that’s enveloped in a thick layer of milk chocolate is simply amazing.

Reese’s (Holiday Edition) -  Yes, it’s ridiculous that I make the distinction between a regular Reese’s and the ones that come out for the Holidays, but I love how the peanut butter goes all the way to the edge.

M&M Minis – These taste even better than the originals, mainly because of their super cute size.

If you had to narrow it down to your three favorite candies, which would they be?

Perfectly Patent

Patent leather is one of the sleekest textures, and whether it’s in the form of constructed bag or a skinny belt, the shiny material certainly makes a statement. This applies to shoes as well, and after some research, I soon came to realize that the styles available are endless. Here are some of my varied favorites:

1. Platform Zipper Bootie: GoJane, $21.99. As a pretty blatant replica of Christian Louboutin’s Laponos, I think these are a fabulous alternative. The small zipper adds a dash of street appeal to these classic loafers.

2. Mary Kate Topstiched Platform Sandal: bebe, $139 $83.99. I cringed slightly when I realized these were from bebe, but how could I not love gray patent with contrast stitching? Paired with some opaque tights, these would be such a great party shoe.

3. Clinton Bootie: Report Signature, $224.95. The pyramid studded strap with ultra shiny patent leather is a winning combination.

4. Vulture: Steve Madden, $109.95. These lace up booties would look so cute with preppy, over-the-knee socks like these.

5. Master Ivory Patent: Jeffrey Campbell, $98 $73.50. In the past, I would have saved these platforms for Summer, but I’m drawn to their wintery-white color and little holes where brightly colored tights could peek through.

6. Wing Tip Patent Booties: Charlotte Russe, $26.99. These are great for a menswear-inspired look, but in a festive, deep blue.

Current Craze: Anthropologie

October 14th, 2008

Every once in a while, a store will come out with a collection that’s simply flawless.  That’s how I feel about Anthropologie’s current crop of cozy knits and textured pieces. They all have a wonderful romantic air to them, but manage to come across as slightly worn in at the same time. I could easily buy it all…if I only had the money.  For economical purposes, I’ve chosen just a handful of their cold weather clothing that makes my heart melt.

  • Floe and Current Coat – $498.  I feel like even I could pass for one of those meticulously dressed kind of girls in this powdery blue coat.
  • Jovial Beret – $38.  This pale pink is so girly, that I couldn’t help but fall in love.
  • Convertible Tote – $228.  The extra handles and hardware on this gray bag are convenient and chic.
  • Double Vision Belt – $34. A nice dosage of vintage appeal when thrown on over a lacy dress.
  • Jalisco Boots – $458.  These boots are deconstructed in all the right places.
  • Cropped Button Trousers -$188.  I adore the slightly tapered leg that would look killer when tucked into a pair of boots.
  • Flip Top Gloves – $38.  These are Pretty Woman and Oliver Twist at the same time.
  • First Ice Earrings – $128.  I love earrings that add a dash of sparkle to an outfit.  These would light up a room.
