Boy(friend) Sweater

May 27th, 2008

This past weekend, I accompanied my boyfriend to the new Loehmann’s men’s store in Beverly Hills thinking that, for once, I’d be able to refrain from shopping for myself. But, as soon as we hit the sweater section, I was a goner. There were racks upon racks of oversized pullovers in fun colors and soft materials. After unsuccessfully convincing him to try on Trovata’s Scholar Cashmere/Cotton Cardigan, I realized it would look equally as cute on me.  Despite the picture of this guy who looks more like a pedophile than a model, I love the retro look of the teal and gray stripes.  Plus, it will go just as well with skinny jeans and flats as it would if paired with an overly feminine white dress.  Though I’ve never purchased a cardigan designed for a man before, I suppose I’m simply making a literal translation out of the term ‘boyfriend sweater.’

Ribbon Rainbow

In the same way that jewelry can completely transform an outfit, I believe that headbands have the ability to make a bad hair day suddenly seem stylish. Yesterday, I managed to squeeze in an hour of tennis before going out to dinner and since I didn’t have time to wash my hair, I relied on a yellow, ribbon-laced chain headband to tie my outfit together. Though I purchased mine from J.Crew several months back, I found these amazingly similar options from Threddies.com, a site dedicated entirely to hair accessories. For only $7.50, I’m tempted to purchase the whole spectrum of colors that I will undoubtedly be able to incorporate into pretty much every outfit.

Riveted

I’m definitely more preppy than biker chick, but I couldn’t help but fall for this Super Stud Purse. The navy patent leather provides an excellent backdrop to showcase the gold and silver studs, but isn’t overwhelming in this perfectly sized clutch. Though I think the little wrist strap is the best option when out on the town, it also comes with a removable silver chain strap that can be worn across the body. Unlike some clutches that rely on snap closures, this bag zips tight so that every time you bust a move on the dance floor, your ID, lip gloss and keys won’t come spilling out.

Fringe Benefits

In years past, I might have saved these Bijoux Cognac Suede sandals for a Pocahontas costume, but as of late, I’ve been oddly attracted to anything with fringe.   It has a relaxed Bohemian vibe, without too much fuss.  The three layers of cascading suede create such a nice flow, ending in a seductive opening.  I also love the light shade of brown, which adds such an inconspicuously earthy feel, that I would counter with fire engine red toes.
