Sex and the Country

Since the much anticipated “Sex and The City” opened yesterday, I thought it would be fitting to mention one of my favorite episodes, when Carrie and Aidan visit his “cabin” in the ironically named, Suffern. It brought so much humility to Carrie’s obsession with clothes, which documented her struggle to dress appropriately for a weekend spent in the country. Though I’m not drawing parallels to myself and Carrie, I just planned a trip with my boyfriend and another couple to stay in a cabin in Tahoe during the 4th of July, and I’m slightly apprehensive about how I will adjust to the new environment. While I so want to fit in with the relaxed vibe by the lake, I fear as though my suitcase will be stuffed with slightly-too-dressy items like this Charlotte Ronson Smocked Sundress. Though it’s made of a cotton and linen, the ruffled top and cutesy buttons running down the front might just be a dead giveaway that I’m not a local.

Bite to my Belt

For someone who struggles with Ophidiophobia, I’m surprised that I fell so hard for this Snake Belt.  It has just the right amount of detailing, with ribbed leather that resembles scales, and a snake-inspired buckle that adds a quirky touch.  I also like the masculine feel that the gold hardware and light brown add, that will certainly help balance all of the little floral dresses I will be living in this summer.

Not So Black and White

After reading just about a million articles about how the pairing of black and white is suddenly huge for spring, I feel slightly confused. I’m not sure when exactly the classic combo went out of style, but nonetheless, I am eager to give it a go. Though I’m typically one to add lots of colorful elements to outfits, whether that be a sunshiney yellow sweater, or a bubble gum pink headband, the geometric patterns in Karta’s Zig Zag Dress, are far from dull. This short, mod dress is not only eye-catching, but the downward, diagonal stripes are super flattering. Best of all, at Lisa Kline, this has been marked down from its original price of $276 to a very affordable $69.

You Can Close Your Eyes

My dad sent me this video of James Taylor and his then wife, Carly Simon, singing one of my all-time favorite songs, “You Can Close Your Eyes.” I was so moved by the impromptu setting and casual vibe that makes this video seem like an uncovered gem. Most surprising to me (since this video is from 1977), is how I want to emulate virtually every aspect of Carly Simon’s look. From her wavy hair, to her muted floral dress, watching this song has quickly become one of my morning rituals.

Floral Fiesta

I have a pretty relaxed office dress code, which is why, on Cinco de Mayo, I decided to celebrate in a vintage top with embroidered flowers. Little did I know that nobody quite understood my choice of clothing until the next day, when I expressed my disappointment that I had been the only one who had dressed up.
“Oh that’s why you wore that!”
Though I can’t say I wasn’t slightly embarrassed, I love my little flea market finds, that flowy top being no exception. Even if Cinco de Mayo is still almost a year away, this Anna Top has a wonderfully cheery feel, with bright colors in a gauzy material. So, while I still might get some odd looks if I wear this out, it’s impossible not to feel slightly transported to a more relaxed, tropical location.

Set Sale

Several weeks back, I wrote about a fantastically genius site called Shop It To Me, that alerts people via email about upcoming online sales. This morning, I was informed about this Tory Burch Terrycloth Short Sleeve Tate Dress, which is so reminiscent of Blair Waldorf that I practically squealed with excitement. It’s a slightly less Upper East Side version, made of terrycloth, making it the ideal option for throwing over a bikini after a day spent by the beach. So, while I eagerly anticipate the return of my beloved Gossip Girl, for the time being, I’ll have to find solace in the fact that at least I can dress the part.

Om-azing

Though I’ve never successfully completed a yoga class, I have a slight obsession with all Om-inspiring attire. For anyone familiar with lululemon athletica, it’s no surprise that they simply make the best apparel. Unfortunately, their quality is clearly reflected in their astronomically high prices.  That’s why I was elated when I found Victoria’s Secret’s Crop Foldover Yoga Pant, now on sale 2/$40.  The best part, besides their super cute shape, are the unique color combinations, which you can actually see on the models.  Though my favorite is the Summer Orange and Charcoal Gray, the contrast waistband adds such a fun detail to these cropped pants that I’ll be sure to wear everywhere but the yoga studio.
