I’ll Sleep on It
If you were almost creeped out at how familiar this bedroom appeared to you at first, don’t be ashamed. Carrie Bradshaw’s life on the hit HBO series, ‘Sex and the City,’ undoubtedly impacted hordes of women, myself certainly included. That’s why, on Saturday, when I visited Bloomingdale’s one-day home sale, it was Carrie’s bed that came to mind when picking out something that would fit my decor. Though I had originally hoped to find crisp bedding trimmed with a simple border, that look is far too Upper East Side, if you will, versus my flea-market inspired apartment. Though I ultimately walked out of the sale empty handed, I at least have more of an idea of what it is I’m looking for, at least when it comes to my bed.

High Rise
After several unsuccesful attempts at finding a long dress that didn’t leave me with a foot-long train, I decided to shift my focus to some shoes that would make me significantly taller. Nine West’s Zanja heel looks like a strappy sandal, with its strategically cut out shapes, yet is sturdy enough so you can walk comfortably; despite the extra 4 1/2 inches. I love the subtle detailing etched into the dark brown leather and the peep toe adds a seductive touch. Best of all, they were on sale for $59 in the store, a great price for a sleek sandal that made me forget all about my bad luck finding a long dress.

Nochella
Half of my office was empty yesterday since almost everyone was on their way to Coachella. Though I adore the desert, it’s because of the dry weather, the lack of activity, and the abundance of air conditioning. I have no desire to be squashed between thousands of sweaty bodies at a music festival. I took this picture on the way back from Palm Springs several weeks ago, and I like how the motorcycle came into the shot at the last second after we hadn’t seen another person for miles. Though the harsh pavement and windmills aren’t necessarily images that instill feelings of tranquility, the vastness of the desert is always calming to me.

Gold Rush
Since I like to experiment with colors in my wardrobe, I typically carry handbags in neutral shades. There are always exceptions to this rationale however, especially when it comes to Foley + Corinna’s Mid City Tote in Glitter. Though I’ve been eyeing this particular bag for about a year now, the tarnished gold color is what truly sets it apart. It offers more of a gleam than your standard tan purse, yet doesn’t cross that line of channeling a disco ball. With a detachable shoulder strap and rolled double handles, this bag is extremely versatile and is crafted so beautifully. Even with all of my brightly hued clothes, this bag will never steal the show, but will make going unnoticed simply impossible.
EDIT: I just spotted this identical Foley + Corinna purse, but in black leather, trimmed with leopard, for anyone daring to take a walk on the wild side for only $99!

Cocktail with a Twist
Though I do own a martini shaker, it currently resides on a top shelf in my kitchen covered in dust. That’s not to say I don’t enjoy cocktails, but typically my pinky finger suffices as a proper mixing tool. After seeing these fun Cocktail Twists from Party Stockholm, I’ve decided that 2008 is the year I’m going to learn how to become a true bartender. These little candy swirls come in a variety of flavors, and are such a fun way to liven up a drink by resting them on the rim of your glass. While I doubt I’ll be busting them out every time I have a drink, they’ll be perfect for guests that don’t have to know my typical mixing techniques.

Romp Around
The last time I wore a romper, I was at an age when wearing a skirt was unacceptable. Therefore, I was consistently proving to the boys in my 2nd grade class that they were in fact, shorts, and not a skirt. For this reason, I’ve been hesitant to embrace the current trend, but with all of the cute options available, it might make for a nice alternative during the summer. T-Bags’ Solid Terry Romper, though technically a one-piece, looks more like a tube top paired with little white shorts. The gold buttons that cascade down the front add a little glamour to an otherwise casual ensemble, making this the perfect thing to throw on over a bathing suit or to wear with embellished sandals on a warm night.

Not Your Average Schoolgirl
I first came across the clothing line, Built By Wendy, last week after a couple of co-workers came back to the office lugging armfuls of clothes from the store’s bi-annual sample sale. I was immediately hooked and made a special trip to her store on 3rd Street. Her line is simple and clean, and is founded on her aptitude for adding special detailing to every piece she makes. This Schoolgirl Dress is far from your popular Halloween costume, instead using tiny sequins in lieu of a collar and a thin strip of sparkle along the bottom. The unstructured, yet slim fit is a perfect date outfit and if paired with sky-high heels and lip gloss, will certainly play into the schoolgirl look, minus that whole knee-socks thing.
