It’s not that I’m opposed to being taller, but the majority of the time, I’m in flats. Unless they’re platforms, I end up walking like a duck in stilettos, therefore I try to avoid the situation as much as possible. From first glance, this pair of 80%20 rouched boots are only unique in the way that the plaid tab that runs along the back gives you the option of scrunching them up or down. The hidden aspect comes in the heel, that is literally blended into the rubber outsole, but covertly adds 2 1/2 inches to your height.

For some reason in California, it’s universally accepted that people combine looks from different seasons. The most appalling example is when a woman pairs Ugg boots with a dress. If you’re warm enough to wear a dress, please lose the sheep-lined footwear and opt for a pair of flip-flops. This same trend also applies to scarves, but in a slightly more practical sense since they’re now available in far less heavy fabrics. These vibrant scarves by Tolani, have a fun, bohemian vibe and add a shot of color to any outfit, whether it’s a dress or a wool coat.

The only thing I like about yoga is the clothing. I once took a Bikram class after a night of heavy drinking and was physically restrained by the instructor when I tried to leave ten minutes in. She insisted that the dramatic temperature change would make me feel sick, but little did she know that I was about to lose my breakfast all over the sticky mat on which I was trembling. Since then, I’ve avoided all such practices, but still love wearing the gear. To my agitation though, most yoga attire is ridiculously expensive. At $16.99, Champion’s ‘Platinum Seamless Camisole‘ is perfectly priced for something that I’m going to sweat right through.

During its launch a few years back, I was fortunate enough to work at Domino, one of the most influential and innovative shelter magazines around. It was the first publication about decorating one’s home and actually providing the necessary information on how to do it. Since Domino’s emergence, it has praised the work of Jonathan Adler, for his jocular take on “waspy country club style.” This lamp is no exception, with his signature robin’s egg colored bulbous base and simple shade, it could as easily be placed on a bedside table as it could in a boutique in Palm Springs.
